What is one thing that Languesol International offers with all of its immersion programmes? Host Family accommodation! That's right, whether you'd like to travel to Jamaica, Brazil, France, Panama, etc for language learning, Languesol International recommends that travellers stay with a host family and here are 5 reasons why:
1. Less Costly
One of the advantages of staying with a host family is that it is usually one of the more economical housing solutions. Depending on the location you may have to spend a bit on transportation and the daily commute; however usually Languesol International sources host families within walking distance of the main sites. Furthermore, host family accommodations usually come with a meal plan (such as breakfast and dinner); and the kitchen is usually always available. Therefore, one does not have to dine out often. Also, a washroom is sometimes at the guest's disposal for free.
2. Constant contact with the language
There is no way to improve your language skills if you're not practicing it ; and living with a host family provides that opportunity to exchange with your hosts each day. To stay with a host family means staying with someone who has been living in the city or town for usually an extended period of time.
Need advice about the best bar in town or a short cut to get to your language school, or even places to avoid - host families are an invaluable source of advice.
5. Companionship
The ultimate advantage of staying with a host family is knowing that you won't be alone during your immersion programme. Especially if you are a solo traveller, it can be quite reassuring to know that after a long day of activities, you will be able to return to "family" and have great conversations over a warm home-cooked meal!
Who knows, you may be invited to watch a movie with the family after or meet a few of their loved ones. Staying with a host family is a great way to build your network of long lasting international friends!
